Singapore
The Personal Data Protection Act requires consent to collect, use or disclose personal data for marketing and lets people withdraw it. The Spam Control Act sets rules for unsolicited commercial messages, including an unsubscribe facility. Only email people who agreed.
Japan
The Act on Regulation of Transmission of Specified Electronic Mail requires prior consent (opt-in) for advertising email, and the Act on the Protection of Personal Information governs personal data.
South Korea
The Network Act requires prior opt-in consent for commercial messages, labelling of advertisements, and separate consent for sending between 9 pm and 8 am. The Personal Information Protection Act governs personal data. Do not send advertising to Korean recipients at night unless they gave that specific consent.
Other countries
Malaysia, Thailand, the Philippines, Indonesia, Vietnam, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Pakistan, Bangladesh and others have data protection or anti-spam laws that generally require consent or an easy opt-out. We apply the strict opt-in rule.
What PostaraMail does for you
How PostaraMail helps: when you send a campaign you choose the regions to include; strict regions only include contacts with a clear opt-in; every contact stores the consent wording, time, source and country; double opt-in is available; unsubscribes take effect immediately; and you can export a consent record for any contact.
